TLDR: Esther Perel Rocks.

Kate and I have absolutely taken advantage of the information revolution that’s happened over the last 10–15 years. Podcasting, blogs, micro blogs, it’s become easier than ever to get all sorts of information on whatever topic may be of interest to you. Some of it is dodgy and questionable, but so much of what’s out there is good stuff and highly useful. Hopefully, what we’re putting out into the world via this blog is additive to the knowledge and information base.

Esther Perel is someone who 100% has been useful and additive to the world.

Esther, if you’re not familiar with her, is Belgian psychotherapist who focuses on modern relationships. She’s a best selling author (The State of Affairs and Mating in Captivity) podcast host, and frequent flier on other peoples podcasts. She also has a couple of TED talks.

I couldn’t tell you when she first came up on our radar. I’d guess an episode of 10% Happier (which is a fantastic podcast.) It seems her wonderfully accented voice has been in our heads for ages.

It was a bit of a surprise to me when listening to the current episode of “Normalizing Non Monogamy” (episode 334) I heard her TED talks mentioned. Not at all sure how, but both Kate and I were surprised to hear Esther had TED talks out there. If you happen to be of a certain age, it was totally an “I could have had a V-8” moment. So, we listened to the pods and thought they were great.

If there’s a downside to all the content that’s out there today, it’s that it’s very easy to miss something. If Esther and her work hasn’t crossed your path and you’re reading this post, I’m betting you’d find what she has to say at least interesting. Her “Rethinking Infidelity” TED talk is a great intro to her and an excellent 20-minute listen in its own right. It left enough of a mark on Kate and me to merit a post about it. It’s worth a listen.
