A Poem by Kate
I’ve been meditating for six years, and it’s been a life changer for me. In early May, I went on my first silent meditation retreat. It was on my list of things to do this year, and I’m grateful I went.
A new experience for me on the retreat was poetry. The teacher sometimes would end a meditation by reading a few lines from her favorite poets. Honestly, some of it was too fluffy and went right over my head. But I really liked the concept.
Since I returned, I started listening to teachings by my teachers’ teacher and she turned me on to more poetry; some of which I really liked.
The other day I had an experience….. And I decided to write about it. I hope people can relate to it.
The Ghost of More
Driving down the road
The weather that day was pristine
I saw many shades of green
And a bright blue sky
I was taken by surprise
By a visit from an old ghost
Recognizing it instantly
I felt it in my mind and in my body
I had forgotten that feeling
Even though I chased it for decades
That beautiful, almost flawless day
Wasn’t enough.
I craved MORE
That bygone, familiar hunger for happiness
Returned without warning
As quickly as it appeared
My mind and heart returned to Now
They saw the Truth
Now is enough
And the ghost was gone
