But ya Gotta Accept it

And so it begins.

The dust is still settling, the votes are still being counted, and the postmortem has begun. The media, addicted as it is to perpetually having the next story, driven by societies addiction to the dopamine hit the next story provides, is relentless. (Says the guy writing this post) It’s Biden’s fault. It’s Harris’ fault. It’s SOMEONES fault.

He won for one reason. The conditions were right for him to win. Like it or not, that’s the truth.

Acceptance of something doesn’t mean you like or agree with it. Acceptance is simply the clear eyed acknowledgment that a thing exists. There’s no morals or judgment; a thing is. That’s it.

Accept that he won. Being mad and smashing your self against the rocks railing about it won’t change it, only weaken you.

Accept there’s a sizable percentage of the (white) population that is racist. You can’t change that, only they can change that. It’s changed and is changing over time and generations, and will continue to. It’s not going to be at the pace you want. You can (and should) be mad about that. You can (and should) accept that.

Accept that there’s a percentage of the population who are lost in what they perceive to be Christianity. Yes, they cherry pick passages that support them and ignore the rest. Accept it.

Accept that wrapped around religion and race is a misogynistic attitide, colored by fear and mistrust.

Accept that a percentage of people have reasons that are valid and deeply personal to them for voting for him that have nothing to do with race or women’s rights or whatever. I know of a woman whose vote went to him due to his stance on the border. Her son died a fetynol death 2 years ago and she feels a tighter border will aid in stopping those deaths. You don’t have to agree with her, you will not change her mind, and she’s entitled to her view. You can (and should) accept that.

Accept that some people have all of the above, some have a mix, some may have none of the above and just want to watch the world burn.

Accept that this list isn’t all inclusive of peoples motivations for voting for him. Accept that you’re not going to change many minds.

Accept that Bill aced it in ’92; it’s the economy, stupid.

Accept no side will ever win every election.

Accept that he won. Nothing about the situation is a sprint; it’s a marathon. Save your energy, don’t waste it on personality X, news story Y, or social media Z.

Don’t fall into the trap of making this about or demonizing him. He’s one man. He’s not supernatural or a god. He wipes his ass after he shits like we all do.

The best way to minimize him is to do just that, minimize him. It’s not about him, it’s about concepts, ideas and values he’s given voice to in such a manner that they resonated with a vast number of people. Fight his ideas and values, that’s the machine to rage against. Remove him from the equation, make it about anything but him and his ego. Ignore him.

Now, stop and breathe. Turn the TV off, stop doom scrolling. Take a walk, or a bath, masturbate, play your guitar, self care, eat comfort food. Recharge yourself. It’s soon marathon time.
