Sam & Kate Report from the Hotel

Kind of reliably at a weekend like this, “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” pops into my head.
Far as I recall I’ve only seen the movie once, and that was 20 years ago. This environment always strikes me as one that could be a background scene for that flick, or something that Hunter S Thompson would riff on. He’s not here, and I’m not him, but at least I’m here.
If you’re reading us for the first time……Kate and I are a married couple in our 50’s whose relationship is Ethically Non-Monogamous (ENM). We’re swingers, our marriage is open; we have sex with other people. We’re in a committed relationship, and somewhere on the polyamorous spectrum; Kate has a boyfriend (or two) and is a Hotwife. It’s neither of our first marriages. We met in a 12 step meeting; we’re each more than a decade sober now. If you’re curious about how this all works, we talk about our relationship in varying degrees of depth in other posts. We have an email address listed in our “about” page if you would like to contact us.
It’s just after 7 on Saturday morning. We’re on the top floor of our hotel, the window faces west, with nice view of I-81 to go along with the pretty awesome Wyoming Valley sunset last night. The road noise isn’t bad, tho the early morning crotch rocket racers made themselves known 20 minutes ago, they were fucking flying down the highway.
Kate, as is the case when we’re in a hotel, is a vision sleeping in the midst of the white sheets, pillows and blankets. I love watching her sleep. She reminds me of a kitten, adorable when bouncing around with their energy, all the more when curled up and sleeping like they stole it.
These mornings are as close as Kate and I get to feeling hungover these days. The combination of being out later than usual, and the volume of the evening always mean I wake up with a headache. At least my mouth doesn’t taste like a hyena pissed in it. It’s the small things.
This takeover is run by a group out of Jersey I think, called Silver and Spicy. I suppose it’s kindof the AARP of the swinging world. IDK if 50 is the new 30 or whatever the current number thing is, but the energy was great here last night.
The theme of the weekend is “Bringing Back the 70’s”. The DJ last night understood the assignment and aced it. I think I heard one song that wasn’t from the disco decade, and that was “Don’t Stop Beliving”. If there’s a song that’s not gonna trigger Gen X and Boomers at a weekend like this, that’s it.
Our friends John and Beth made the trip up for the weekend. We get along so well with them, they’re very easy and comfortable to be around. John is one of those guys who knows how to work a room. Five minutes after walking in, he knows everyone and starts introducing ya. His joy of people reminds me of Clifford The Wonder Dog, they’re kindof each others spirit animals. Beth is the perfect counterweight for him. She’s tall and beautiful, a ready smile and just as happy to talk with anyone. They’re great folks for sure.
In the welcome packet the hosts had for each couple was a small, maybe 3X3 card with a picture of a sex position on it. Kate and I had a man standing, with a woman on her knees blowing him. The intent is to carry your card with you for the weekend and try to find the couple with your matching card. Turned out to be a great way to meet people. I think the first hour of the meet and greet was people swirling around looking for their match. Far as were aware, none were found. Didn’t matter at all. Great idea for an event like this.
I’d say about half the crowd was dressed in ‘70’s fashion, or made an attempt to honor it. I was all polyester and THOSE black shoes, the same ones my Dad wore in the 70’s; I was channeling a social studies or maybe chemistry teacher from any high school in 1978. Our friend Beth said at one point last night that I looked like her dad did back then. Aced it.
Kate wore jeans with bell bottoms the size of Texas, and looked spray painted on at the waist. A lime green tube top under a 70’s flower pattern sheer blouse, thick chunky cork wedges on her feet. She went for a Farrah look with her hair, and killed it.
There were two main activities last night, a meet and greet / dance in the hotel lounge, and a clothing optional pool party. We spent time at each.
There were adult games at the party, which were good for a couple laughs. Seeing 5 couples all in their 50’s or beyond (and some were well beyond) get up in front of the crowd and be told they each have 2 songs to get into some opposite sex clothes was entertaining. Each couple did it, the rule was they couldn’t be your partners clothes. After they came back up and modeled, the guys were told they had 30 seconds to twerk and a prize would go to the best. Hunter S Thompson would struggle to invent a 65–70 year old guy in a midrif baring shirt and daisy dukes twerking like his life depended on it.
The next game was musical chairs. Again 5 couples; guys on the chairs, women doing the circling. As the music ended and one poor woman was left with a lap to sit on, she was given the option to strip naked and continue instead of leaving. With zero hesitation, and in short order, every woman playing was naked. The guys were given the option to strip as well should their naked wife end up without a lap, only one guy stripped down. I found that interesting and filed that detail away.
Something that’s become a godsend for me are Apple AirPod Pro II’s. The noise canceling is magical at events like this. A lifetime of being a rock ‘n roller combined with a couple decades in the Army has put a decided hurting on my hearing. I have some foam tips for them I got from Amazon and had zero issues with them wanting to fall out when dancing the night away. They’re amazing at concerts and while mowing the lawn as well. Highly recommended.
Eventually, the four of us, being the good swingers that we are, made our way to the pool. Decent pool, bigger than I expected it would be, and heated to just about hot tub temps. I didn’t count, but I’d guess there were 25–30 other couples in the water. It was crowded, but not overly so. Ya had some space to maneuver.
The four of us are VERY comfortable with each other, and again, being the good swingers that we are, it took about 6 seconds after we got in the water for the kissing and touching to begin. A great balance of conversation and naked body contact in the water, in “public”. It’s GREAT energy, very sensual and zero fucks are given by anyone.
I made an ass of myself at one point and Kate used her words to reel me in. I got a bit over enthusiastic while trying to maneuver her and Beth closer together. I’ve done this before, tried to push Kate when she’s not ready to be pushed. It’s not a regular or constant thing, but has happened. Kate called me out in a calm way, with John and Beth right there. I understood, apologized and ceased what I was doing. It wasn’t a catastrophic episode, I was in the wrong. Kate wasn’t snarky about it, and I listened and heard her. Communication. All the time we’ve spent building our relationship, all the trips to uncomfortable island. We had a test, and we got 100%.
A bit later, John excused himself to go to the bathroom. I found myself buck naked, in a pool, with two beautiful, equally naked women; one on each leg, and I had an arm around each. Very comfortable kissing and caressing, it was a great moment.
Soon enough it was past midnight, and both Kate and I were wiped out. Yesterday was a work day for us both, complete with 2 grandkids that spent Thursday night with us. I had regular work, Kate had the boys and multiple doctors appointments. We were done.
Yesterday was basically the pre party, today brings the main event. Kate and I are both looking forward to speed dating tonight at I think 5. We’ve long wanted to do that and for various reasons, it just hasn’t happened. Hopefully that changes tonight.
More to follow tomorrow morning….
Thanks for reading!! Be kind to yourself and others!!!
